Scuba 6 Eco Diving: First in Caribbean to Pledge Green Fins Code of Conduct

Scuba 6 Eco Diving is the first dive shop in the Caribbean to have pledged to follow the Green Fins Code of Conduct.

Green Fins is overseen by the Coral Reef Unit of UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) and was initiated to help increase public awareness for the need to conserve coral reefs and reduce unsustainable practices.

Green Fins code of conduct encourages dive centers and snorkel operators to reduce their environmental impacts. The Code of Conduct consists of 15 points which target environmental threats both under water and on land. In order to help support those who wish to follow the code, Green Fins makes available free educational and awareness material and guides.

When we asked Ginette the co-owner why Scuba 6 Eco Diving is putting so much effort into becoming eco-friendlier, Ginette replied: “If those who live from the ocean and practice their favorite sport in the ocean do not do their part to protect and conserve the marine environment, wo will? The diving community is starting to shift more and more towards eco-friendly initiatives and we are committed to leading the way hoping to positively influence others.”
